Members at St. Stephen’s dedicated prayer time on the one month anniversary following the shootings at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The chain represents those prayers that were lifted up in honor of those lives lost and the healing of Emanuel AME Church and the community. The chain is being sent to Emanuel AME Church as we are linked through the love of our Lord and Savior.
Update: As the school year comes to an end, the AR KIDS READ tutors worked with several of the children and these volunteers are looking forward to continuing the mission of helping children to succeed through reading. Thank you to all of those involved in making a difference in the community!
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is in the process of establishing a partnership with Pinewood Elementary. Pinewood Elementary is located one block south of St. Stephen’s, on North Eastern Ave. The partnership will include help with supplies such a pencils, providing food for the backpack program, socks and underwear for the health room, reading tutors at two grade levels and other volunteer services. This effort grew out of the 143rd Annual Diocesan Convention’s theme “Beyond Open Doors”. When contacted the principal at Pinewood Elementary was extremely excited about the possibility of a partnership. Tutors from St. Stephen’s are being trained by AR KIDS READ of Central Arkansas. AR KIDS READ is a tutoring partner with the three Central Arkansas Districts: Little Rock, North Little Rock and Pulaski County. If anyone, church members or friends, would like to get involved in volunteering at Pinewood and making a difference in the life of a child, please contact me: Rev. Jim Dalton, 501-941-0395
